The Conclave mIRC Guide
 Overview

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is the main communication system used by The Conclave. It allows all members of The Conclave to chat in a central location and, unlike instant messaging programs, you do not need to add each member to your list to be able to chat with them.

Multiple IRC programs are available for various operating systems and links to some of these are provided at the bottom of the page. Although some of the information in this guide will apply to most of the IRC programs available it has been written primarily for mIRC, the most widely used IRC program which is written for Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Choosing the Setup Method That is Best for You

This guide covers three separate methods of setting up IRC to join The Conclave IRC channel. The methods vary in complexity so each method has been given an accompanying description to help you choose which is best for your skill level. Choose one of the three setup methods below to get started:

Fully Automated Setup - Novice User - This method will explain how to use a program to automatically install and setup mIRC with all the settings needed to allow you to join and chat in The Conclave IRC channel. You will not have any control over the setup options during the initial install although you will be able to adjust these settings afterwards.
Note 1: This setup will NOT overwrite settings stored in by an existing installation of mIRC.
Note 2: This method does not currently work on Windows Vista.

Manual Setup - Intermediate User - This method will explain how to manually install and setup mIRC to allow you to join and chat in The Conclave IRC channel. You will also be able to adjust setup options to meet your own needs during the setup process.

Settings Only - Expert User - This method will give you the specific server details to allow you to join and chat in The Conclave IRC channel only. You will be able to install and setup mIRC to meet your own needs during the entire process.
